This week, I’m participating in a carnival hosted by Julie at From Inmates to Playdates. She is hilarious, and you should really check her out if you’re looking for a fun read!
Since this is the first time I’m writing on this topic, I might be a bit flexible with the “this week” portion… we’ll see. Here goes! This week I have learned:
- Moving out of a classroom I’ve been in for one year is much easier than one I was in for four years.
- Moving out of a classroom is still tough.
- The best way to get a 3 year old to stay in bed at bedtime is to stop stressing out about it. Then, she’ll stay in bed. Then, mom will miss the “Mommy! I need help with something!” calls just a teeny tiny bit.
- That same 3 year old knows more Spanish than I thought she knew. I’m humbled at how she can surprise me.
- 17 month old boys have “terrible two” moments. A lot. “Terrible seventeen month olds” isĀ more of a mouthful than “terrible twos,” but is probably more accurate.
- That same 17 month old can now “kiss,” which makes my heart so happy. His kisses may be open mouth and kinda gross to some, but to me they are magical and make the two year old behavior more than tolerable.
- Being too sick to drink coffee can lead to a terrible headache, and the realization that I should cut down on my coffee intake.
- Asking the 3 year old to tell me if she likes my new dress will help get her out of bed. The 17 month old will then put chewed graham cracker on the white portion of said new dress. I wonder when this stopped bothering me. Probably about the time I became a mom.
* Another “how can you tell I’m a mom?” moment will be explained in detail tomorrow. Trust me, you are not going to want to miss it!

One should never cut coffee out just because they get a little headache. Persevere. Stay the course. Just take small sips when you are sick. What? I like my coffee. Must go pour another cup now.
It is amazing what we learn to tolerate when becoming moms. And I totally get the love of the open mouth kiss from a 17 month old and the ‘hate’ of the ‘terrible twos’ that a 17 month old can have.
Too funny! I linked to her last week too and like her posts.
Love that last lesson!
Thanks for sharing them all
1) 17 month olds are the worst 2 year old out there. They are worse than actual 2 year olds.
2) I have just had to learn to live with stained clothes. With all of Spencer’s various eczema creams and ointments, everything I own has a grease stain somewhere. Usually front and center on my chest.
3) I have learned that WD-40 will either take grease stains completely out or leave an even worse stain. It’s a gamble everytime.
Love it!
Open mouth 17 month old kisses are the best, I agree

I have a 17 month old too. I agree! My little girl just started giving kisses to. They gross my husband out but I love them!
I think my second son started into the terrible twos around 16 months and stayed there until he was about 3 1/2. It was a long nine years… or so it seemed. Luckily the kisses make up for the headache!
