As I drift off to sleep, I embrace the quiet.

There’s not a lot of quiet around here, and I’m ok with that. There is talking and singing and reading and whining. Sometimes arguing, but even more laughing.

So, in the early hours of the morning, when all is quiet, I enjoy it. A lot.

And then… suddenly, then Zac is climbing on my head.

Hmm, must be morning.

Almost as suddenly, I notice that his butt, which is now on my head, is wet.
Like, really wet.

What the….

Simultaneously, my eyes focus on the clock.

2:38

Fiddlesticks.
(Yeah, I’m all about the strong language at 2:38 am)

It’s remarkably clear. I put Zac to bed in a regular pull-up, rather than an overnight. So, off we go. Quick diaper/pajama/bed sheet switch and we are ready to get back to bed.

Except…

“Zacky sleep mommy’s bed!”

Normally, I’m all about the kids staying in their beds. It’s now 2:57 and I have no backbone. I help him find Baa Blankie, tuck him into my bed and head off to check on Lilly.

Who is sleeping in a puddle.

Seriously? Off we go to the potty. Change of pajamas and bedsheets, and she’s back in bed. Finally, I am ready to get back in bed myself.

HOW does a two year old… a teeny, tiny two year old… take up an entire queen bed??? HOW???

It is possible. Zac manages.

I bend myself into a pretzel in order to stay in bed, grimace as my back aches (how old am I?!?) and nod off to sleep.

My alarm goes off, I hit “snooze,” and notice the quiet yet again.

Except for Zac snoring so sweetly.

And then… CRASH.

Lilly has fallen out of bed. She’s done this twice ever.

So, we whine before getting back into bed.

I move towards the bathroom, but don’t get too far. Turns out, that when Lilly fell out of bed she knocked over her pound puppy’s home, sending said pound puppy sailing across the room and into the deep abyss of her closet.

Sooooo I help her find puppy, reassure her that all is right in the world. As she goes back to bed, Zac wakes up.

A shower and hot coffee. These things would be nice.

We move on with our morning, knowing that these kids of wet rough nights are few and far between around here.

I’ve written about our morning routines before. Things have changed, but the chaos remains the same. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Don’t worry, our evenings are equally tiresome hilarious, and I’ll share an “average” evening soon!

On a morning like this, were you absolutely hoping that Circle K made their caffeinated coffee instead of decaf? Whew!

  4. Lol. Literally.
Does Pancake sleep with you when she’s there too? She also takes up way more space than she probably should for a 40 pound dog.
Also, LOVING the fact that Lilly is loving on a pound puppy!

What a night!! LOVE the pictures…bet you wish you could’ve crashed too.

  6. I remember those days, and it really seems SO long ago! One day they’ll let you sleep all night, and even sleep in, and you’ll be sad. I promise.
